When Did Mortal Shell II Come Out?

The global release date was confirmed in a trailer posted by PlayStack on their official social media account: August 20, 2026, worldwide. On PC, the Steam announcement celebrated the same date: "Mortal Shell II is now available worldwide", telling players to buy the Standard or Devout Edition and start playing immediately.

Two days earlier, on August 18, 2026, Steam announced that early access had begun for players who pre-ordered the Devout Edition — the "play up to three days early" perk that comes with that edition.

Platforms: PS5, PC and Xbox

Mortal Shell II launched on all major platforms at once: PlayStation 5, Steam (PC), and Xbox. The game is single-player only — there is no multiplayer mode. The ESRB rating is M for Mature (17+), for Blood and Gore and Intense Violence.

The Steam version supports 15 languages. English has full audio; languages such as Simplified Chinese, French, Italian and German support the interface and subtitles. Steam Deck compatibility is listed as "Playable".

Release Timeline: How We Got Here

Mortal Shell II was officially announced on June 6, 2025 during the Summer Game Fest, with a roughly two-minute trailer and a targeted 2026 release window. At that point it was already described as a standalone sequel that significantly expands the original game.

In the months before launch, the game's official X account posted cryptic countdown videos — the first on March 4 showing 671 hours remaining, followed by weekly videos on March 11, 18, 19 and 26, ending with a 24-hour countdown on March 31. In a February 26 Steam post, Cold Symmetry also confirmed a PC beta plan and re-confirmed the 2026 worldwide release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

The Standard Edition launched at $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99. The Devout Edition, the digital deluxe version, launched at $59.99 / €59.99 / £47.99. A PS5-only physical Revered Edition was also announced — see our full editions comparison for what each version includes.
