What the Official Sources Say
The Steam store page lists the game with a single-player tag only, and the game's release information lists its game mode as Single-player. None of the official materials — the announcement, the 11-minute gameplay reveal, the store pages, or the official website — mention any online mode.
This tracks with the design shown in the reveal: resting and fast-traveling through Beacons, leveling up at the Marrow Keep hub, and exploring a compact, interconnected open world built for one Harbinger. Steam features like Cloud saves, achievements, Family Sharing and controller support are all single-player conveniences.
No Co-op, No PvP, No Invasions
Many searches ask whether Mortal Shell II "will have multiplayer" or "invasions" — the answer from everything officially published is no. Unlike Elden Ring-style summons or Dark Souls-style invasions, Mortal Shell II has no player-to-player gameplay of any kind.
If you were hoping to fight bosses with a friend, the honest answer is: this is not that game. What it offers instead is a deliberately paced single-player challenge — see our difficulty guide for what you are signing up for.
Social Features That Do Exist
The "social" side of Mortal Shell II lives outside the game: an official Discord community (over 7,800 online at the time of our research), an official Reddit, and official channels on X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Twitch. The community wiki ecosystem around the game is also active. These are the places to share builds and strategies — not in-game.
Could Multiplayer Be Added Later?
There is no official statement about multiplayer ever being added — not in the researched announcements, the Steam news posts, or developer communications. The original Mortal Shell also remained single-player throughout its life. Follow the official Discord and the Steam news feed if you want to watch for any change.
